Our review

If you are looking to upgrade your uke or dive head first into the world of high-end ukuleles, you are in the right place. aNueNue's world famous Cedar Bird is a pleasure to the eye and the ear.

The body is crafted with a solid Cedar top for a sweet, resonant tone. The sound is rich and expressive, strong in midtones, and buttery smooth. The back and sides are made from solid Indian Rosewood, a recurring feature of aNueNue ukes, and provide an incredible lushness and sustain to the Cedar.

My pick of the specs is the Spalted Maple rosette, flush to the sound hole and bordered in black. It's rare to see this specific detail on a ukulele, but it works well. I'm also a big fan of the blended body binding which accentuates the shape of the instrument. Another rare but excellent choice from the team at aNueNue.

The Ebony fretboard gives you smooth playability, while the gloss finish brings out the natural beauty of the wood grain. Black perpendicular tuning pegs and fluorocarbons strings are the icing on the cake. The Cedar Bird Concert is the natural fit for any one looking for an upgrade or a taste of high-end luthiery. Make the change today.

My dream instrument

As someone not interested in being a collector of ukuleles, but rather a player with a variety of instruments to choose from, I have bought and sold quite a few since I began playing. Each instrument I added was to be 'the one' but there was always another feature I thought I needed (but could not afford). Now after waiting some years, this Cedar Bird finally ticks the boxes to complete my set.
It is lovely to see and to hold, beautifully finished, and the cedar tone I have longed for gives me joy every time I pick it up. There are also pretty decorative bits, but I'm not aesthetically gifted so they were not my first observation.
While it is great for strumming, I'm blessed to be able to reserve it mainly for fingerstyle. I try to get up the dusty end fairly often so the cutaway is a plus, although the unique design of the top manages to trick the eye at first. The planetary tuners have the traditional ukulele appearance but are really quick and easy to tune.
Another bonus is the hard case supplied with the instrument - solid, comfortable and safe for the new 'baby' and the obvious place to keep it protected from the high humidity in my area.
I still play my koa, acacia, cocobolo, mahogany and carbon fibre ukes, but my new Cedar Bird is often the first one picked up.
UAS may finally be conquered in my home!
